This 9-minute piece was commissioned by the Naperville North High School Friends Of Music for the NNHS Treble Choir and Orchestra in 2009. The poignant text by Josephine Preston Peabody describes a woman who imagines herself in a conversation with the moon as both look out over a battlefield after the fighting ends. Mostly triadic harmony in the voices, but with a recurring chromatic motif woven throughout the texture. Rich musical language, symbolism, and drama in the vocal writing and accompaniment highlight the words.
