Campfire Song
A "circle song" inspired by the live improvisations of Bobby McFerrin and Voicestra.    Written for two All-District vocal jazz ensembles in Illinois, it ended up being both groups' favorite piece.   A 6/8 groove in Bb minor.   Opportunities for any amount of free improvisation -- the chart can be opened way up.   Your imagination is the limit.   No lyrics in this one, just syllables - but with a very different flavor than the "VoiceDance"/"Joy Sounds" pieces that are currently very popular.   "Convertible" chart (optional rhythm trio LMP-014a)

The Lion Tours The World (variations on The Lion Sleeps Tonight)
A co-commission of Lincoln-Way Central High School Chorale and the Libertyville High School Concert Choir, premiered to an enthusiastic reception at the 2008 Illinois Music Educators Association state convention.   Never taking itself too seriously, it take the lion on a journey through Africa, Ireland, Jamaica, and finally settles down into some classic doo-wop.   Lots of fun.

Harvest Moon
For SSA choir and string orchestra (5 parts)
This 9-minute piece was commissioned by the Naperville North High School Friends Of Music for the NNHS Treble Choir and Orchestra in 2009.  The poignant text describes a woman who imagines herself in a conversation with the moon as both look out over a battlefield after the fighting ends.  Rich musical language, symbolism, and drama in the accompaniment highlight the words.
